I just got the last of my damaged equipment back from repairs and it's all working again, but this might make you think twice about photojournalism and whether to get involved in certain situations.

Getting involved in those "certain situations" is what makes photojournalists who they are. Professional photojournalisits working for papers and wire services don't run away from these situations, it's their job to cover it. The great ones embrace these and other potentially life changing situations, it's what defines photojournalists.
