I have a co-worker that does model trains, and mini-train in his yard. Not sure the scale of the one in his yard. Big enough to sit on and ride though. But his inside layout covers the bonus room over his garage and into another room in his upstairs. He does articles for some of the model train magazines too. He does 100x better what I did as a kid in the basement.
