I used a back part of a Nikon lens (mounting), plus a rubber tube (from a sink), plus a Fujinon lens with a divergent lens in the back.

Anyway you can use an extension tube, some rubber tube and a medium or large format lens. This is a more conservative way to achieve a good result.

Don’t be afraid to experiment.

I made two similar lenses last year, to make them I used a shock boot, the ones used on the suspension on 4×4 trucks, two M42 macro Extension tube, two M42 to Nikon adapter and two medium format Zenza Bronica lenses I bought used from Keh.

I had a lens that flared like that.... (well.. maybe not that badly). It was due to fungus on one of the internal elements.

I am actually getting flare like this with lens adapters that are made for lenses with less back focus to fit on my a350, it has a glass element similar to the one you are using and performs almost identical, with really bad halo and coma at wide aperture while decreasing rapidly with smaller aperture. At first I thought it was due to the lens I was using with such an adapter, an Olympus G-Zeiko 50/1.4. I knew that this lens was pretty unruly wide open, and just figured that was the problem.

However, now that I have my Canon 35/2.8 concave - a $300-400 40 year old lens and supposed to be one of teh sharpest lenses canon ever made behaving almost identically to the $15 Zuiko, I am kind of having my doubts that these adapters are capable of perfoming suitably at all, especially at wider aperture (I wasn't expecting full cooperation, but this is ridiculous!)

I'm guessing that this is a result of completely out of control coma or internal reflections. I can kind of visualize what might be happening, but I can't really articulate it well...

Unpopular: thank you for sharing your experience. I agree that to add a lens in the back its not for free.


By the way my Samyang lens is brand new and inmaculate, but cheap.

Here is an example about how crazy the coma is with the Samyang at f 2.8.
