I've really enjoyed a lens I recently got. Nikor 55-300. It was my first lens purchase and I'm pretty happy with it. I've never had this much zoom so as you would expect I've over cropped everything..

naw, you cropped #2 very well. The hsot of the late sun hitting the horse's mane--it's my favorite shot of the set. But yeah, the 55-300 is a narrow-angle lens! Inside of 100 feet, you need to think "small pictures", but I think that's really the easiest way to get better; the look for segments, moments, happenings, brief things, timing, when things 'come togethr, just so': all those kinds of shots can work well for a 55-300 user.
