What's new

How can I get this effect?

it's definitely not an in-camera function. Post Processing.

the over exposure part would be an in camera function, but everything else is after the fact.

I'm with ya mwcfarms. I feel like a lot of the good details have been overpowered by the effect. Overexposed and desaturated, at least she's consistant. lol.

Bump the ISO to 3200 and overexpose it by about 3 stops. That would save you the hassle of PP.

Personally, not a big fan.

I'm seeing a lot of it, seems to be the "it" thing right now. I don't care for it but what do I know:)

Its what I consider trendy which isn't bad but definitely nothing special. I usually throw a couple edits like that in when I do a batch to see if they like it but it reminds of old polaroid film. Snifff.

All her photos seem to have four things in common:

1) Shallow DOF, taken at an aperture of f2 or lower
2) Over exposed
3) Color and contrast manipulation in post
4) Naturally posed and often moving subjects--like she captured a moment instead of created it.

You could always ask her - wouldn't that be simpler than everyone guessing?

She also seems to be shooting into the light in these which could add to the washed out look. I would recommend post processing, however, I know canon (and I am sure nikon and many others ) allow you to create custom jpeg modes. You could create one with lowered saturation, lowered contrast and then overexpose if needed and if in a hurry.
