How to Photograph Transit of Venus

I've done some searching but still haven't found quite the answer I'm looking for. I have Canon Powershot S5 IS, no extra lenses or anything so this is more of an "experience" than anything. From trying to take pictures of the moon, I know I need a bigger lens to make it really worthwhile, but hey I'm learning...

I want to know how I can take a photo of the Transit of Venus safely. I see stuff about proper filters, pinholes and such. But if I just use the display on the back of my digital camera, I should be OK right? Just don't look directly through the viewer???

I know someone out there is super smart and knows the answer to this off the top of their head...so please fill me in!

Pointing the camera directly at the sun is not the greatest for your equipment either.

Don't have any filters...so pinhole?

You could grab some welders glass if your in a pinch.
