Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi guys, got myself a Nikon D5000 at the start of the year and I've been learning alot with it and have started to use it in Manual mode more often, the problem I'm having is noise, mostly when taking landscape shots

can you give me some advice on how to reduce noise?

lenses I have are the Nikon 18-55mm VR kit lens, and the Nikon 55-200mm VR lens
looking to buying a 90mm Tamaron macro lens and a Nikon 35mm 1.8 prime lens in the near future

Thanks for any help

too wide question :) so to narrow it down.

  • Are you trying to "prevent" the noise whilst taking a picture ?
lower your iso 800 -> 400 and then go on tripod / increase time / allow more light to the lense / use flash
  • Are you trying to "limit" the noise in post processing?
relatively good noise removal is for example in adobe lightroom: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 * Reduce image noise

- Lower the ISO value, lesser the noise.
- Correctly exposed image has less noise than an underexposed image. (Expose to the right may help - Expose Right)
- Noise reduction application (during post production) (noiseware, noise ninja etc)

I will try a lower ISO, was using 400 at the time, still getting used to manual settings with the camera

I don't think you should have too much noise at 400. Can you post some shots? What lighting conditions are you shooting in?
