How's the DOF on this?

Sitting at the dining room table this afternoon working on some of my grad homework, and my wife yelled at me to get the camera off the counter so she could cut up some fruit. Sat back down, camera in hand, and snapped off this shot. Manual focus.

Just curious what others think :)

Too thin, I don't like the out of focus portion in the front.
 
The DOF on this is very small.



On a serious note, I don't think such a narrow DOF works very well here. There's no real subject or point of interest to concentrate on because it's so shallow.
 
I agree with what was said above. It's a good idea, but there's nothing in focus to particularly grab our attention other than lines on the paper. Perhaps if there were a pencil or something, but that'd be difficult because the pencil would have to be perfectly straight which wouldn't look right to me. Maybe a higher angle with something on the paper, like words; or a word. Just my thoughts...
