this was the first time i had been on this field in 25 years.the blue team was my old high school and the white team is my kids school.we got beat 25-23.

so, I have to do some sports shots for my photography class... any pointers? What lens did you use?

these are shot with D3s and sigma 70-200.Manual exposure, [SUP]1[/SUP]/800 sec, f/2.8, ISO 6400.i try to stay about 20 yards in front of the lineman.here lately people from other team want me to take them for them.lot of people say get low and shoot but i have not tried that.

The second one the focus point is on the player behind the ball carrier. I like the last two, good action. It's tough shooting at 6400 as I find the images go mushy and don't always look sharp, I add a bit of grain(noise) to images like this, I find in a lot of cases they look sharper. Watch the background horizon line and try and keep it as straight as you can.

I know guys that shoot low all the time and it does create a different angle, what it also does is not give you any room scramble if the play suddenly comes your way. I've shot both kneeling and standing, some places don't allow standing. Where to position yourself all depends on what players you're planning on shooting. I've found for linemen(which are tougher to shoot), standing near the line will get you better opportunities for pass blocking or if the guard is pulling around the corner on a running play. Receivers can be shot from almost anywhere, you never know where the ball is going, and in a lot of cases it just comes down to luck.

I am doing a few HS Football games year. Got this shot late in the game of the winning touchdown with just seconds left on the clock. A bit noisy, but the kid's parents loved it.

Do you find the 70-200 to be better a 70-300? Just got my camera and I know the 80-55 isn't going to cut it, I can't get close enough to the action.
