Hi there, these look great! The one thing I would do is bring some props. A nice fluffy blanket from home or maybe a feather boa to drape around them. Something easy to do that will make them stand out *that much more. If you want to get real creative maybe a feather toy and get them to bat at it haha.

Nice photos. I love cats too (well I love most animals). We actually adopted both of our cats from a local shelter.

I would agree with the tighter crop suggestion.

You certainly should be commended for volunteering your time and your skills to help find homes for these cats, and the rest of the animals at the shelter.

Your pictures would indeed be that much stronger of a presentation and help to form a one to one with the viewer, with some crops. Angel's crops are very good. I like the 1st crop for the 1st picture, and the 2nd crop for the 2nd picture.

Thank you everyone for your CC! Good things come to those who volunteer as it seems. I got an e-mail back from the Humane Society today. First off, they LOVED the shots and were sad that I didn't put some sort of water mark on them. Secondly, the co-director apparently has a photography business of her own and asked if I'd like to shoot as a backup on some of her sessions and possibly on a wedding! Whoot! (I'm not sure why, if she has her own business, she hasn't taken some better pictures of the animals though...)

I'm so glad that they liked the pictures, it makes it all the more rewarding. If you capture a great picture and get great reviews on it, it is a very rewarding experience, but I've found that donating your time and skills (or lack there of), it is a far greater experience!

I was looking at the humane society website in my area last night (browsing for a new dog) it broke my heart seeing all of those dogs... my boyfriend said "what can you do? adopt all of them?" & I thought about doing this to get some practice with pets since there are so many different kinds and tempers at the humane society so thank you VERY much for posting your experience, you make it sound so easy I hope my HS will let me do this as well!

Being a college student and an RA on a campus that doesn't allow pets in the residence halls, I make frequent trips to our humane society. I know exactly what you mean about it being sad to see them and feeling so helpless. I was very happy to hear that they needed people to take pictures for them. It was a very rewarding experience! I'm sure if you called them up, they would be more than willing!

I noticed at my Shelter they just took pictures through the fence which for a pitbull or other dogs that have a bad reputation.. that alone could stop a person from getting more info, it looks like the dog is too hostile for even staff to handle. They took all of the dog pictures like that though. I just feel like I want to help in some way, I don't have much money to donate but this could help out MAJORLY.
