It was absolutely frigid today but I got the urge to head out. All were shot with a D7000 using a Nikon 18-200mm VRII. My only issue is having left the aperture at 4.5. That's what I get from going out during my lunch and being in a rush.

I am really looking for C&C regarding composition

I am really in the market for a standard zoom/micro..this was a borrowed lens and i need something between 18-70mm

How cold was it for you today? It was -22 when I woke up this morning with a -36 wind chill! :(

It wasn't that cold ! LOL...but we'll be hitting those numbers tomorrow and Sunday. It was like -20 with the windchill

LOL that bad, not one c&c on the pics

C&C as requested:

#1. The temperature is warm, but not to the point of distraction. The buildings are falling over because the shot isn't level. I don't like that you chopped a part of a key element (left post). I think you're message is getting lost. Because of the shallow DoF, I *think* your subject is how the snow is piled up on the bench, but including the two black posts causes that message to really become diluted.

#2. I really don't know what your intended subject is here or what you are trying to communicate to me that seemed interesting to you. The texture of the rock wall? The altar? The light hanging? The green gate? Perhaps if it wasn't for the white wall and snow, it would be more clear. This shot just makes no sense to me. There is enough perspective distortion to be bother me... the top frame is level, but the bottom is leaning a bit, and both sides of the frame are leaning inward.

3. Interesting form, but a bit cluttered. Perhaps moving further out from the building would help to "sort" the elements into a more understandable arrangment. I'd really like to see some detail in the shadows. I do like that you chose monochrome.

Hi

Not a CC but a question here

about #2, the top of the pic is leveled but the bottom of the pic seems not leveled. why did this happen and how do we fix this issue ?

I am asking cauae this seems to happen a lot in my shots (im a noob so bear with me :) )

thanks

Disclaimer: I could be wrong on this... but as I understand it...

This is normal perspective distortion and occurs naturally. However, when viewed in a rectangular frame, does not appear natural. In this case (assuming the door frame is actually square in the corners), the camera was not perpendicular to center of the door frame, but was off to the right side. The camera compensated for the horizontal tilt of the top of the frame, but you cannot compensate for both at that angle unless you have a tilt-shift lens or do it in post. It is generally best to make sure you are directly in front of the door so you can at least get the top and bottom parallel to each other... of course, unless that isn't a trait you are going for.

Consider this... how could you possibly shoot railroad tracks so they run parallel in the frame? You must shoot directly down onto them. Any other direction, and they are no longer parallel but will point to an imaginary point on the horizon (whether or not the horizon is visible).

Thanks Bazooka, really appreciate it

Bench was rotated...it was either the bench being straight or the buildings. I should of just left it as is. Therefore because of the rotation I had to crop part of the post out. Here is the original. No PP done

Here is the original of the brick wall without the crop
