I got a deal I can't refuse, getting a d90 this weekend.

Backstory:
Brother in law got my sister a d90 with upgraded lense (I'm thinking it's the 18-200, he paid an extra 300 to replace the kit lense) for their anniversary last year and she hardly used it. This year, he got her a samsung p&s b/c she didn't like carrying around a big camera. I voiced my aggravation about it and how she's missing out on an unbelievable camera. Well, it still sat and she refused to take it off auto or learn anything and today ..... she decided it IS a waste and offered it to me. All I have to do is sell my d3000 kit and give her whatever money I sell it for and it's mine. How awesome is that!?! I'm psyched!

I need to start checking with all my friends and relatives and see if any one of them has good dust collecting camera equipment.

Congrats for the upgrade. Agree with OP that if someone has the money to upgrade the equipment, why not? You really do not need to outgrow the camera to get a new camera. For those who are tight in budget, that maybe a different story. But life is short, we should do things that can make you happy while we still can.
