Roight, about time I got a proper flash for my Dynax 5. I'm being cheap and getting a second hand one from eBay because I'll only use it twice a year...

As far as I can tell (I've had to look this up) it has a iISO flash shoe and all flashes for Minolta and Sony digital cameras will work with it. But one for a Nikon, etc. won't?

All hotshoe flashes will work on all hotshoe's, however you need to watch the voltages between your Camera and flash otherwise you could fry your camera.

Check the voltage's of your prospective brands here:

Whilst all flashes will work, only compatitble flashes will allow you to use the automatic setting on your flash, or allow your flash and camera to communicate on more than a shutter basis, i.e. it won't allow for ETTL metering etc.

For example, I have an olympus e-420 and use a Sigma EF-500 Super flash with a pentax hotshoe.

Works fine as long as i'm on manual on the flash.

Saved me $400 as I had the old flash from an old Pentax *Ist D.

Ummmm I think Ferny is correct. I have seen a Sony Flash that will mount on any hotshoe but will not fire,as there is not a center contact.
