thanks! It was simple, I doused my palm in lighter fluid and lit it. Took about 12 tries, and I have some nice blisters on the tops of my fingers. The problem is that it takes about 3 seconds for the flame to get high, and by then it really hurts.

Any chance you and a bunch of buddies can make up a huuuuuge batch of canned chili and pound down maybe 8,9,10 beers apiece and then light some farts on fire and you shoot pics of that? this .gif is a demonstration i did for my chemistry club just 2 weeks ago. i assure you it does not hurt at all, and it produces a rather nice mushroom flame

the trick when burning small amounts of fuel on your body, is to wet your body first. this way, the flame only evaporates the water, and you dont get hurt. you feel a nice warm tingle, actually.

the fuel here is methane trapped in normal soap bubbles. if you dont have access to methane, you can do something nice with a 50/50 mixture of isopropanol/water (just rubbing alcohol). you can even change the flame colour by using different ionic salts (i.e. table salt for a yellow flame, a lithium compound for a red flame, etc). you can also soak paper cash in this mixture, and burn the money without any damage to it

Haha, Thanks Droidz! I was fairly certain there were safer ways to accomplish the same stunt, but I am cursed with impatience, and I don't really mind a little pain. Besides, the emotion I was trying to photograph would seem cheapened had I faked it. I can tell you though, I probably won't be doing it again although I would.

just for the in future, try using something like a hand sanitizer (that has alcohol in it) or bug spray it burns but leaves your hand untouched. awesome shot though love the flame
