I was just told to leave or police would be called

Not sure what to make of this, I was at a place called the "Districts" at Green Valley Ranch, it's an outdoor shopping center thats next to a casino, it's also owned by the casino.

Had lunch at the District and aftewards I was walking around and started photographing pigeons, I was approached by security and told to exit the premise as photography was not permited unless I was photographing another person in my shopping party.

I was given a "District at Green Valley Ranch" code of conduct and they circled this. There were a total of 12 items listed, this is #10

"The following activities are not allowed on the District at Green Valley Ranch property

10. Taking photos, video or audio recording of any store, product, employee, cutomer or officer. While taking photos of a shopping party with shopping center de`cor as a backdrop is allowed, all other activities must have shopping center management approval"

I was respectful and told them I was just taking pictures of pigeons and offered to let them look at my camera, they said if I didn't leave ASAP they would call police....argh...

You're not a real photographer until you've been thrown out of somewhere for taking photographs. :mrgreen:

I was once admonished for taking photographs from the pit wall at Silverstone race track. I was also told to leave a station on the Docklands Light Railway in London, they don't allow photography there, fortunately I managed to get some good shots before I was thrown out on both occasions.

lol simmiler thing happened to me and my friends the other day. we were skateboarding, this gap at our local mall, the rent-a-cop drives up and tells us we canot take picture or film on the property so we had this long argument that my friend filmed with his nifty vx-1000 and fisheye. a guy came from another parking lot and told us we can skate there because it is not mall property after the rent a cop left. so we went there..the rent a cop drives up again to us when we were of mall property and tells us the same ish again except this time he gets out of the car so i take numerouse pictures of him, we explained what the other guy said and he didnt believe us. because the other guy went back into his store so the rent a cop asked a worker at the stoer( not the one that told us we can skate) and they guy said i didn say notin, so the guy told us to stop filming and we did.. the cop left but we went back to the gap to proceed our skating setion. rent a cop drives up again says i already told you to leave, were like no u didnt u told us to stop filming and taking pictures, by now he was extremly agrevated and called the cops and he followed us of mall property.. fun day fun day. i mite post the pics of him later

Thats why I did what they asked and was polite the entire time. They were kinda cool about it, the guy even said he was just doing his job, almost like he was sorry for having to tell me to leave...

Unfortunately image and the media have created an impression of skateboarders. Basically it is that they try irresponsibly risky challenges and end up injuring themselves, and/or others and/or causing property damage. Most of us have seen videoclips of skateboard risks that have gone wrong and so have property owners and security companies.

So, it is stereotyping and therefore wrong, but this is where they are coming from, so it has some "logic" to it in their thinking.

hmmm... is a mall really someplace that wouldn't be considered reasonably publicly accessible such that they could toss you out for taking pictures? hmmm...
