Thank you for watching and commenting!

I love it, great concept and very artistic. It seems to me like it's a little soft though.

Edit: Now that I look at your gear it's because the 18-55mm isnt the sharpest lens in the world. If you had better glass it would be perfect.

That image has very nice color and is an interesting subject. If you hadn't said that it was an icicle in the thread title I wouldn't have known that that was what I was looking at. The reflected light really obscures that.

Looks good to me. I like the composition. A little selective dodging might give the icicle more 'pop'

I've never really understood "dodging" :P

btw, congrats on 2000 posts, you used it well

Thanks, folks! It doesn't look like an icicle at all, really. More like some weird metal thingy. It is ice, though :)

It's an old darkroom technique that Photoshop mimics.

You have PSE9 and I assume it has a dodge tool (and burn and sponge tool - all on the same 'button'). Basically, it brightens up areas of the photo and works like a paintbrush. You can select to dodge the highlights, midtones, or shadows and you can apply it with as much or as little strength as you wish. It's great for bringing out highlights in eyes on portraits - much like burning in shadows to give more depth.

Play with it though, it's definitely a useful tool.

Well, I played around a little with some darkening thing and some saturation, those seemed to bring out the most detail and depth of the icicle. Is this any better?

Very interesting. Looks almost like metal, not ice.
