My new speed light came in just as I was walking out the door to a friends house so I brought it along with me. I was trying to hook it up to the wireless receiver and chat at the same time.

It took me over 100 shots fired to finally realize I put the flash in the receiver backwards.


The good news is, my flash works! The bad news is my subjects are in bed and I don't have much to test it out on, or a computer to upload test shots too......

I almost smashed one of my transceivers for not triggering any of my lights last night.
It was only when I went to grab another one that I saw the batteries still sitting in the charger.

I've read about this in other threads putting the flash on backwards on those and the small wired cube ones.
Luckily I still use a SU800 and don't use them ... and I've learned from reading so when I do make the jump, I should be able to slap my forehead within minutes !!

Yep! Can't count the number of times I've added or removed a light and then forgotten to turn the trigger on/off. You'll get over it.. in 10-20 years!

Yep! Can't count the number of times I've added or removed a light and then forgotten to turn the trigger on/off. You'll get over it.. in 10-20 years!

I don't want to make fun of you. If I tried to catalogue all my mistakes others could be making fun of me for a long time.

It's not my mistake In general - it's the amount of time it actually took me to trouble shoot the problem. :giggle: instead I just say there pushing the same buttons over and over again trying to blame the "broken flash" In my defense I was actually trying to use the manual for troubleshooting and it said NOTHING about backwards hot-shoe placement. Lol

A Few Years ago I had some cowboy triggers that stopped firing a flash in the middle of some work. I thought "Cheap Chinese sh*t", took it apart, checked the board and caps, cleaned contacts, put it back on the flash. Still wouldn't fire. After an hour of screwing around with the trigger, I finally looked at the camera and saw my shutter speed had change to 1/500 (I was shooting in manual mode.) This is when I realized I had just reached spot number 1 on my personal list of All Time Ignorant Moments. Apparently, I had tried to zoom in on a preview on the led screen thinking I was in playback mode. By turning the dial, instead of zooming in, I increased the shutter speed and no sync. Brought the speed back down to 1/60 and every was fine except that wasted hour, and my pride, and to be honest I did't have any feelings of self worth for the rest of the day.

So Just Jazzie, I think i have you beat.

Aww! At least you have the skill to take things apart and try to fix them!

I'm constantly knocking my ISO. It's really easy to do on the NEX7 and I've ruined plenty of shots using iso 6400 in 100 conditions. I finally found this handy little "exposure lock" button my camera has, but to be honest I usually forget to use it. *sigh*
