It doesn't work for me because the light is... backwards. The lightest area of the photo is the background, followed by the ear. It's an ear shot. Your face is the darkest lit part of the photo but it should be the lightest and the ear should be in shadow because it's not what we're interested in seeing (nor is it, in my opinion, a particularly attractive part of the human anatomy). I think if you retook this exact same shot, composition and pose, but with you facing an open-sky-lit window or any large lightsource without any other ambient light around you, it could be a striking image.
