Im new to photography and DSLR! :D

My name is Wes. Im 16 years old. I have a Cannon Rebel T3i. With a 18-55mm lens. Now i have Several Questions

1. What should I be doing to get into a photography Business?
2. Where could I find online Competetions in photography other than Flikr and Photobucket
3. What kinda photography field's are available for 16 year olds? Should I stick with one type of photography?
4. Most importantly, I cant seem to upload my Jpeg pics to anywhere. 1 there to slow, and 2 Photobucket keeps saying Upload failed due to IOException. and Flikr says timed out. HELP!

You should learn photography over the course of the next ~6 years; do not charge anyone in the process. Take a lot of photos, post a lot of photos for critique, take business classes, and get legally set up to operate. Thinking about a photography business immediately after getting a camera whilst also admitting you are new to photography is a terrible, terrible idea.

2. Where could I find online Competetions in photography other than Flikr and Photobucket

Not sure on that one. Pop Photo has photo competitions quite regularly and publishes them in their magazines.

3. What kinda photography field's are available for 16 year olds? Should I stick with one type of photography?

Don't be concerned with that. You literally are just getting into photography. You don't start shooting at a professional level the first day you get a DSLR. That isn't how it works. It's foolish, and irresponsible on your part. Shoot what you want. Whatever interests you. If you're just getting your feet wet, it doesn't really matter. Just don't start thinking you're going to be getting into "the business" anytime soon.

I'd suggest resizing your images to 800px on the longest edge. It's very easy to do in photoshop, or lightroom. I use Minus - Free Image and File Sharing to upload my images. Also, you may want to try going to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and seeing what your upload speed is.

My advice is stay in school and learn.

First you may want to separate photography and business. They are 2 separate animals. Do not mix it together.

You may have a higher chance to succeed if you can master the business side rather than in the photography side. I believe I can make a better tasting burger than McDonalds, but who make the most money. However, if you mean you want to be a professional photographer, you just need to master your craft first.

Take the next five years of your life and learn about photography, by then photography will have changed again, and take the next five learning more.

Gizmodo does a photography challenge every Wednesday, and every submission gets posted for the world to see. They do however, feature the best ones on the front page giving the photographers more exposure. Also, I second those that are telling you to build your portfolio. My sister in law is a cosmetologist and she provides me with models who need to build their portfolios. She doesn't charge them, I don't charge them, and when its all said and done, three people have expanded their portfolio. See if you can't work something similar out with people you already know.

Okay i see what you guys are saying. To be honest i kinda would like to do Animal Photography. I do have a portfolio. But its a work in progress of course. I dont know if i should make my portfolio all digital? or physical? Right now i made a website that hosts all my pictures. . But thank-you guys sooo much for helping me! I really do appreciate it

Mix and match keep yourself flexible when building a portfolio. Use a tablet, then have a hard copy as a standby. If you are more interested in duckies and bunnies photography you are going a longer lens and a lot of patients.

Take advantage of your age and situation. Join the school newspaper, yearbook. This gets you the following:
1. Portfolio
2. Experience
3. Line on your resume
4. Good reference from faculty advisor

Hmm. How long of lens would i need to have? And It seems as if im not pushing the camera to its full potential? I mean idk if its just me but i feel that way. And is there any Online courses that I can do for photography? I mean im on a very small budget for right now. My school has a yearbook, My grades are not high enough. No school newspaper D:. I also thought bout trying to get into my county's newspaper. But idk how all that works.

Was there a problem with my response? Have I offended you in any way? Have I caused you to shed tears at night because of my answer? What right do you have to negatively reply (attack) to my response. I took 10 minutes out of my day to answer the kids question to the best of my ability and you are trying to give me grief about the help i provided over a couple of red words?? Stop worrying about me and start worrying about your self. The minute I start linking back to my site with garbage pointless posts is the minute you will be allowed to attack me in public.
