Im stumped whats your input

So i took these pics during sunrise. Now im stumped on how i can pp them. Here are my edits but I feel there are better things to do with them. Here they are pre processed

Here are the post process shots. What do you guys think and what would you do with them in photoshop and what would you have done differently at the shooting itself.

First, strive to get the image as close to right in the camera as possible, rather than relying on editing, post process.

In a brightly back lit situation fill flash has to be used to increase the exposure of the subject matter that is in hard shadow.

The sky is badly blown out in both original captures..

IMO both images would have much broader appeal if the DOF was sufficient that the entire scene in each photo was in focus.
