Image help, uploading to social media & theyre SUPER pixilated.

So I upgraded from my 60D to a 5DM3 and now I'm having trouble uploading pictures from the 5DM3 to social media without them being extremely pixilated. There was always a tad bit to my 60D images but it wasn't very noticeable. This time its pretty bad. I use lightroom to resize them during the export process (I usually resize to a max dimension of 800px) have mainly been posting them to Facebook or Pinterest. Anyone know how to fix this? Is it because I am.using lightroom to resize?

I hope you're not expecting a resized image of 800-pixels on the long edge to maintain the detail the original image has.

I used to and never had a real issue.. Tried to resize to 1500px max edge and it was still very pixilated.

no, something is wrong.
pixellation comes from upsizing.
Why not upload at the displayed dimension?

If you take, say, a 15mp image and resize it to 800x600 pixels, it sure ain't gonna hold a candle to the original image when both are displayed the same size side-by-side. If you display the original at 100%, the smaller version will have to go to 550% to be the same size on the monitor. That sure as heck is gonna be pixelated.

I never use FB but I would imagine that every picture should be in sRGB and have that profile embedded.

your pictures are a bit color noisy and that might be due to the profile issue but the pictures also seem too wide for the FB standard.
I always upload at display sizes so that the hosting site doesn't resize.

Sorry I'm on my phone so I can't get the link, what I mean is, its choppy, maybe not pixilated per say, but very choppy. I don't upload the original size because it is just so huge, but I'm pretty sure it would still do the same thing. On my computer when it's downsized it still looks crystal clear and in fact looks sharper when sized smaller. Then I upload it to facebook and it gets that choppy pixilated look.

I agree, the colors are a bit off as well. Always happens when I put them up, or between screens (laptop displays different than phone) I'm guessing that's just Facebook's thing.

My guess is that the thumbnail images are what is being uploaded. Not kidding either. At times, various Fuji and Kodak printing kiosk machines have recognized my thumbnails and have printed THOSE, instead of their associated 2.5 to 4.5 megabyte JPG files.

Ya that is odd! Something to think about, huh. I suppose ill google some resizing and facebook troubleshoot.

Keep in mind that regardless of what you do, Facebook downgrades image quality fairly significantly anyways.

Well, that used to be true, but under the "new regime", 1,960-pixel wide images downloaded from Facebook look impressive, with VERY beautiful on-screen image quality. I've experimented with images around that size, and 2,040 pixels wide images also look really GOOD when I hit the "download" option, and bring the image into my computer, so there is a way to offer viewers a very nice-looking JPG image. It's no longer necessary to stick to the 960-pixel wide or tall limit that seemed to be optimum a couple years ago; I think the increase in competition has forced the folks at FB to allow larger images with higher quality. There are also some fairly new-ish super-compression algorithms, one of which was developed a few years ago by the people who offered the software formerly known as beamr.
