Importing Photos?

Does it make a difference how I elect to import my RAW files off my camera?

I put this in the newbie section because, well, it's a newbie question that perhaps I should have asked a while ago.

What are you importing the Raw files to?
It is a very good idea to keyword your image files, particularly if you use an image database management application like Aperture or Lightroom.

There are 2 very nearly identical versions of ACR - Photoshop's built-in plug-in Camera Raw and Photoshop Lighroom's Develop module. However, Raw files you upload to your computer are not in LR or Photoshop's other plug-in - Bridge.
Being data management software LR only keeps track of where on your computer (the file memory path) the Raw files are.
Bridge is a browser and just shows you the file memory path.

At the bottom of the Camera Raw work space is a series of settings you can change that LR Develop module does not have.

Thank you KmH, as always your responses are insightful and helpful.

My question stems from a lot of reading I've been doing lately about how ACR is presently mishandling the Nikon D810 NEFs. Even Nikon is saying to only use their image software, ViewNX2, however they are not presently supporting the D810 with ViewNX2 and instead recommend using Capture NX-D but I can't get it to actually import the files, it's saying I need to enable the Mass Storage setting on the camera...

If, to your knowledge, ACR and Lightroom both handle the nef files the same then I'll just keep using what I'm using.

In terms of Lightroom, I think I'm over-organized personally.
