I was inspired by Pierre-Auguste Renoir's Painting - Woman with a Parasol in a Garden 1873.

This would be more what I was going for in Hind sight.

So I attempted to produce an image of something similar. My tree is not very lovely but was my first try in manipulating the noise to produce this effect. I also purposely shot the image blurry. I think it was a little too blurry. Let me know what you think.

Your result looks much more like pointillism that impressionism...and yeah, I think it's a bit too blurry...still, a really good thing to explore. Things like this are worthwhile to experiment with.

Cannot ever come close to comparing a painting like that, to a blurry photo and a filter of some sort. Its not that easy. There are ways to do impressionism in photography, but thats not the way. But have fun with it, mess around and see what you come up with, just dont rely on PS filters.

I agree with Derrel. Looks more like pointillism.

Here's a pic I did in that style. No post filters were used.

Ran across this video a while back. The technique is, in a nutshell, smearing Vaseline over your UV filter. It produces an awesome oil painting style image if done right.

Take a look:

I did not use any filters, I simply used a high ISO and then made it a bit more pronounced in lightroom and I agree about pointillism I will look that up for examples.

I agree Renior was a master but it is okay to gain inspiration from masters even if our images fall short.

Hi,
I just joined The Photo Forum.
Its very interesting photo posted by Bitter Jeweler.
As for Impressionism, I was working on mixing/merging photos frames from time-lapse sequence to achive something similar to Impressionism.
I'm using program in Processing to merge small patches from up to 25 photos taken in the same time-lapse sequence.
Here is an example

Now THATS freaking awesome!

Can you be more specific about the process/software?

How many exposures were merged?
Were they hand held or tripod?

I'm really interested in this. Any websites to point to?

Thanks for liking mine. I like yours more :D

Thank you.
The concept is simple, but it took me years to do this.
In this case I think I merged 15 random exposures from time-lapse sequence.
The goal was to create short movies, I published some on Vimeo
(www.vimeo.com/groups/impressionism), but I think some single frames looks not bad too.
All photos were taken using tripod for the whole day or even couple of days.
I created my own program using Processing programming language (www.processing.org), but you can do this also in Photoshop by using complementary masks. The program is just merging pictures without changing anything like saturation, hue, etc. So, its showing natural changes of the colors during the day.
I called this technique imprevionism, it creates similar effect to Impressionism.
But I dont like terms like digital Impressionism.

Was your photo created with smearing Vaseline over your UV filter as showed in the video above?
I think that combination of yours and mine technique may create very interesting effect.
