Love the middle two take off shots

And I swear that you've got every snowy in the area trained in that half lidded eye look ;)

Nice shots. Good capture of the one in flight. Which lens did you use on these? Maybe try a tighter crop on these.

Ha ha, Thanks. Maybe they're mimicking my expression,it's been a long Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks. This were taken with a 500mm f4 w/1.4 tele. These are highly cropped.

I like pic 1 and 4.
Great shots.

Did I ever mention how much I dislike you :) I should of drove North today apparently... Still super jealous...

Never seen one of these in the wild. How do you and fellow bird guys find these things?

It's all about research for me. I try to find out about as much as I can about a particular bird. Then I go out searching. I also follow a few bird sighting websites in my area. Once I hear about sighting I go out search areas that I have scouted in advance.

I am sooo jealous of BOTH of you, with your durn owls!! I'm beginning to HATE owls, because in all this time, I have yet to find even ONE. I am about to launch an all-out owl-hunt. I *will* find me an owl. Not likely to be a snowy, though--they are MORE than rare around these parts, and in the winter, I only travel to the SOUTH of home!

Youd be surprised at what is out there that you've just never seen before because you weren't actively looking for it. In the past year, I have seen so many different birds that I never even knew we HAD around here. Some of them are actually quite common and not that hard to find, but because I didn't really have any interest in them and wasn't actively looking for them, I'd never seen one.

There ARE tools that can help (like ebird, and I also use the email list for our state's ornithological society), but mostly, you too can find all these birds if you just give up ANY remaining semblance of an actual life and dress in camo and spend every spare waking moment (and some half-awake moments) sitting out in the cold and the snow and the heat and the rain and the fog, just waiting... :lmao:
