Back in 2011 my wife Clare (botanist as some of you may recall from previous mentions) began germinating peach seeds and scouring the St. Louis city Land Reutilization Authority website for a nearby vacant lot. The LRA has a program called a garden lease where you can take over a vacant city lot for $1.00 per year for a garden -- catch: you have to take care of the property as in mow the grass.

Spring 2012 we started digging at 1416 Devlin street. Amazingly the Google street view car drove by just as Clare began work digging the first hole (see photo below).

Post title: We're right below the drive-up pay window of a busy McDonald's where I stop for coffee on my way to work Saturday mornings.

Spring 2014

We have 27 fruit trees in the ground now (peach, plum, apricot, misc.). Peach and plum blossoms for the first time this Spring:

Fruit on one of the plum trees with a view of Big Mac in the background, and a view looking down the hill past the middle row of trees (peaches).

Here's that Google street view from 2012 and peaches!

That is freakin' awesome! Cool shots. Tell Clare the guys on TPF saw her picture on the Google Street shot and that we all think the speck looked a lot like her, and that the red arrow made a nice accessory !

Thanks guys. We're just peachy excited.

Fantastic! Hopefully more people catch on and the tables turn and the Big Mac is shadowed by this type of program!

Yes! The irony of looking up from our work there and seeing McDonald's on the hill above us has not escaped Clare and me.
