From my last two walks around the neighborhood. This is a favorite theme of mine. A portulaca escaped from someone's porch pot and has managed to flower in the barren wasteland of the sidewalk. And a sweet potato vine lushly growing from the crumbled mortar between walls. It comforts me to know that after we exterminate ourselves and take most of the life on earth with us, the plants will reclaim the wasteland and flower.

Two Fridays ago, I was driving east on Interstate 84 through Portland, and I saw a pretty good-sized butterfly bush growing out of a crack in the enormous 40-yard long, 4-foot by 4-foot concrete block block walls that reinforce an enormous overpass above...right there, on one of the busiest, most-claustrophobic, "enclosed freeways" in the entire metro area...a five-foot, healthy, purple-blooming butterfly bush, growing out of a crack scarcely a half an inch wide and 20 feet above the roadway...nature is indeed determined, persistent, and ready to take over once we mess up...

I like #1 - it stands on it's own well.
#2 - not so much, but I like the lines and segmentation of the frame.
Perhaps B&W would suit #2 better?

Thanks Derrel. Yep, it's amazing how tenacious they are. In time they'll tear that overpass down. I love it. Here's another recent one I snapped.
