Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hello everyone, this is my very first post! I decided to join because I am a beginner photographer and needed some help. My main problem right now is noise in my pictures.

I am shooting in RAW with the lowest ISO my camera allows without lag in each shot. I am including an image with very bad noise, not all of them are this bad but a lot I have to simply delete b/c they are terrible! What am I doing wrong?

This seems to only happen with my indoor shots and very few outdoor.

Any feedback is much welcomed thanks!!!!

Camera? Software?

I sometimes notice that I get bad noise... But its caused when I mistakenly leave my Auto ISO on in less that ideal lighting...

Hard to say; the main causes of noise are high ISO and under-exposure, neither of which seem to apply here. Most of what I'm seeing in this image seems to be jpg compression artifacts. Can you add the EXIF data for this image?

Could it be the way I'm editing? I always start editing my pictures in ps with the exposure. Should I turn up the brightness not the exposure? I dont think it's my camera because then all of my pictures would be faulty. Thanks for the quick reply!

What was the actual ISO you were using, or can you post the EXIF data?

Sorry newbie to the terms, what exactly is EXIF? I feel dumb now lol. My ISO was either 200 or 400, I have a set of soft boxes and I know I have to turn up the ISO a little b/c they are too dim to set it at 100.

The EXIF data is a set of data your camera attaches to each file showing the vitals of the shot. Date, Time, Lens used, F-stop, ISO, Shutter Speed, focal length, etc, etc, etc. This should be able to be accessed in the software you use for post production. As far as the ISO setting, depending on the camera, an ISO of 400 is enough to get some noise into the picture.

If you are using a windows based computer you can locate the file in windows explored and right click-properties- one of the tabs on the top will have exif Info.

Regardless of the actual ISO you used, if you increased the exposure in PS then you increase the noise - if you shot at say, 400 ISO, and increased the exposure by 1 stop in PS then you are getting the equivalent of a shot that was taken at that exposure level at 800 ISO. If you increase the same shot by two stops, then it's the equivalent to taking the shot at 1600 ISO. I'd say this is where your noise is coming from.

Wonderful! Thank you so much, I will deff. work on this!

Tried it does not.. sorry.

If there is EXIF data attached, it should remain attached if you upload to Flickr and don't have your settings configured to hide EXIF data. (Flickr is free)

Also, fokker nailed it... upping the exposure in PS or LR or any other program for that matter will increase the noise of the shot. It's best to get the exposure right, or at least close and only make minor adjustments if needed in PP. Keep practicing!

I actually went to the RAW image and found no EXIF data... Maybe I am not looking in the right places, but I clicked properties and looked all over. ? I will deff. keep practicing, I love photography... Indoor shots are just killing me.. New lighting that isnt natural, all different settings... Urgh...
