Does any one know of any company out there that makes an inexpensive 85mm prime? I'm not too worried about speed, as long as it's like 2.8 or 2 or so (not 5.6 like a lot of kit lenses are).

Also, I'm just curious, so it doesn't matter what camera its for. I just wanted to know if one can be found (used, obviously) on any system out there for around $200.

I paid $340 for a Canon 85 1.8 about 2 years ago - just checked B&H, it went up slightly, it's $355 now.

While I was on B&H I did a search, apparently there aren't any 85mm lenses (for any brand) under $250 new.

Oops...Didn't see that you're looking for used. Sorry.

On B&H's used page I found these... (both $229)

Konica Minolta 85 f/2

Nikon 85 f/2

Thanks, Jeep (easier than your screen name)!

Too bad those are manual. I think what I'm looking for doesn't exist. :( It seems even a 10 or 20 year old prime autofocus lens still holds almost 100% of its value. Sucks for me...

I got my Nikon 85 1.8 new for about $250 (I did work for Ritz at the time though).

Yup.. many see the Canon 85mm f1.8 as one of those HIGH bang for the buck lenses without the red ring. Some say the quality approaches L quality (I agree).

I got my LNIB Canon 85mm 1.8 for $280. Demand and prices have gone up for this lens in the past little while though. The only way you'll find an 85mm prime for $200 or less is going to be a manual focus lens. Unless you get lucky I guess...
