It probably wasn't smart for someone like me with Asthma to drive into this mess instead of the other way. However the reservation were made and we hoped the smoke would be confined to the NC side of the mountains as we headed to Gatlinburg. Didn't count on the whole NW of GA to be on fire. Ran through about 10 miles of it as we skirted the very NW corner of GA, then it cleared up some and we thought it was over, Unfortunately it was worse on the north side of Chattanooga. Even with the windows up it was bad.

Yikes! now THAT is some serious smoke! We had big, widespread forest fires here one summer, and we drove down the Interstate almost all the way to California through heavy smoke, a lot like you show. NOT fun to breathe! Thanks for posting.

Visibility dropped to less then a mile at one point. TN has activated the National Guard to help in Hamilton County, TN. Latest reports were over 10000 acres burned in NC, 12000 in GA and 10000 in TN. unfortunately little or no rain in sight. We're only a spark away in Northern Alabama as we've been in a stage IV drought for a month. Our only saving grace is that the woods aren't as dense

I would have died with Asthma and Emphysema. Just the smell of a near by fire place outdoors in the air affects my breathing. I was coming back from Massachusetts back into CT and got caught In fog so bad I could barley see the wiper blades on the windshield and going like 10 MPH on I 91 south bound praying a big rig truck didn't ram us in the back and kill us all. Probably the first time driving in my whole entire life I was scared out of my mind,I was leaning all the way up like grandpa because I couldn't even tell what lane I was in.

WOW !

In 1984, I flight with a Otter over Labrador and sniff the smoke in the cabin over the forest fire beetween Wabush and Schefferville (110 nm) !!! :biggrinangelA:

@DarkShadow so far so good. We're NW of the worst of it, and between the meds and inhalers I'm surviving. Already been in the ER twice this year so if it gets worse will have to move.
