Hi all..

Lurked here on and off for a while and decided finally to register

Grabbed a few quick shots of my 23 week young lad. I have a lot to learn, so C&C more than welcome.

Watch your backgrounds... focus is off in the first, third, and fifth image. Love his eyes in the fourth, but you were shooting so wide open that only his right eye is in focus.... I am quite new too, so take any c&c with that knowledge

What are you shooting with?

First thing I would do is lose the frame and vignette, then up the exposure a bit. As mentioned, your focus is off- this may be from a number of things including shooting wide open as well as slow shutter speed.

Congrats on your boy- he looks like a happy little guy. Let's see if we can't get you taking some incredible pics of him with a little guideance- he certainly is a handsome model.

I dont care about every technically bad thing in photos 4,5. If that was my kid i would have those in a frame. Those expressions are priceless!

Thanks for the comments, all very much appreciated.

All of the pics were taken "quickly" trying mainly to capture the moment rather than being perfect, but thankful for the insights.

They were taken with a Nikon D60 and a 50mm 1.4 D lens and it seems the manual focusing is my main issue (probably not helped by it being fully open either).

Initially I thought the exposure was OK, but that'll be a downfall of PP on a £500 laptop. After viewing the images on my Dell Ultrasharp there's definitely a big difference!

I'll make a few changes and drop the vignetting and frames and see if I can at least improve what I have here already.

Thanks also for the kind comments about my lad. He's a seriously happy little fella which helps to grab some interesting happy "poses".
