this is an example of some of the kinds of pictures I like to take. Other than the fact that it was taken with just a 3mp digi, and it was so bright out that I couldn't clearly see the display on the camera, it doesn't look too bad. I was thinking that aside from poor quality cam, a dark filter would have made this look nicer, anyone have other suggestions for me?

It could be an interesting abstract shot - maybe if it were black and white. I think it's a little out of focus, though.

I'm glad that I am not the only one who takes shots of interesting shapes and textures purely for my pleasure and as a challenge - putting up with "why did you waste (film) on that! Ideally a polarising filter would have brought out the sky - a 3meg camera you are struggling unless everything is spot on. I would also try and get something with a viewfinder - screens are useful for checking but devils to see focus and even anything in bright light.
