So, this is just a quick (15 minute) session that i did for some friends. Mind telling me what you think?

They're nice with decent poses. I wish her smile was a little more genuine... it looks fake to me, especially coupled with the extra-wide eyes. Was she a little nervous in front of the camera?

It's really nice to see maternity shots that don't show a bare belly, but show the love between two people. Very nice.

Now, my opinion on the processing.. I think the matte look is a little too much here. There are some beautiful colors that could have shown through but are being muted by the processing. Sorry.

I couldn't agree more. This kind of processing seems to be really popular and for the life of me I cannot understand why anyone would find washed out, filmy looking pictures attractive.

I posted some of my work here recently and one of the comments was that I should have done more 'modern' processing.

Please understand, Hannah, this is just my own opinion. Clearly, this processing style is very popular as I see it very often. Otherwise I think your pictures are quite good. The background comment does bear a little merit though.

I don't get the framing of #2.

I also think your processing has diminished the power of these shots. Anytime the processing is the thing people notice first, then it's too much or the wrong direction or both. In this case; it's both.

now, this is going to be a complete noob question, but when you say watch your bg i'm assuming that means background? If so, what should i be watching for?

Thank you! i appreciate every ones input. (ps don't say sorry when i asked for input! I'm still learning *obviously haha* and really appreciate any input from people with more experience than i have, which lets be honest, is basically every one. hahahah)

Thank you! I am still playing around with editing and figuring out MY style. Which is why i love photography so much, every photographer has a different style, just like every person who needs/wants pictures done has a style they prefer. I really do appreciate your input. thank you!

Also, what would you watch in the background? I'm not trying to be obnoxious i just genuinely have no idea what im watching for! haha

#3 works better than the rest (for me).

Can't see who it is in #1 - could just be a random couple.
Can't see her face properly in #2. Which is a shame because yo ucan sort of make out she's smiling, but not sure.
Love #3 as it shows bump, love, hands, kissing, emotions. Shame about slanted background, but I will ignore

Thank you! Yes, they were pretty much knee deep in grass. Finding a field on a tropical island that doesn't look like the jungle is pretty hard, my options are limited haha! But thats a good idea about cropping it. I really appreciate the kind input. thank you!

Remember that in a photograph, the background is not only noticeable, but it actually becomes a part of the composition. When there are unexpected objects in the background, it distracts the viewer's attention from the subject. A careful observation of the complete composition will inform the photographer of any potential problems, such as the classic "tree growing out of someone's head, or the like.

In your photographs shown here, the background is somewhat off balance, and therefore distracting from the subjects in a very subtle way.

This muted blacks/fogged blacks/desaturated look is a very modern and current, faddish way to process photos, but this set carries it just a step too far overboard...these photos will look very dated and gimmicky once the next fad comes along. If there's any positive benefit to desaturating these this much, it's that it helps keep her pink or red bra from showing through quite as badly as it already does.

I like this much better.

His head's split by the hillside but the processing is much nicer. At least to my eye.
