Interesting Observation

The best laid plans can really go astray and particularly related to the Canadian election.

The Conservatives (equal Democrats in political view) were looking to get a majority in parliament. The Liberals (closet conservatives but supposed to be more to the left in political views) were looking to prevent Harper and the Conservatives from getting a majority. The NDP ( left of the Liberal Party) are usually not taken seriously because they always are a low third choice and some consider them to be socialist)

So the Conservative party took the American attack ad approach to the Liberals and the Liberals responded in kind. Both ignored the NDP.

The result is that the NDP surged ahead of the Liberals in the most recent polls for a strong second place. The other two major parties are trying to attack the NDP but more of the Canadian public is paying attention to the Royal Wedding as the NDP continues to advance. Part of the reason is that a lot of the public is seeing the Liberals as being just as conservative as the Conservative Party, and they are looking to the NDP as being the "true liberals".

It should be interesting to see how this turns out on election day. Will fear of "socialism" give the Conservatives a majority? Will the surge in NDP support NOT translate into votes? Will the NDP become the official opposition (second place)?
Will there eventually be a coalition government, and who will lead it? Will the NDP support continue to surge even higher before election day?

There are certainly lots of possibilities in this election and I am not sure that I would bet on any particular one.
