iPhone Product Photography Question

Hello all,

I'm planning to take some product photos using my iPhone 5s and some stuff from Amazon that I plan on ordering. These are not affiliate links, I'm just looking for some help as a complete photography newbie.

My main question is, would this lens help me in any way?

Any other tips from photography experts? I'm literally clueless and I'm just trying to take nice product photos.

I think the iPhone's stock lens is fine for most smaller products; a close-up lens might be useful for SMALL products, like say trout flies or crappie and bluegill jigs...very SMALL objects only 3/8 inch by 1/2 inch long, small stuff like that.

I have seen some GOOD on-line product shots done with iPhones. The key? DISTANCE to the camera from the subject...the closer the camera, the more the lens can distort the closer-edge of an object. When the camera is moved farther away, there is less product distorting. It can be good, or bad, to distort products! Depends!


Do not be afraid to back up to 1 foot, or to 3 feet, and to plan on later CROPPING the images, for the final shots.

Keep the camera steady!

Thank you for your advice! I'll skip the lens and just get the other two items because my items aren't super small or jewelry-related.

I'll be using a tripod so no problems keeping a steady camera, and most likely I'll pay someone to edit the photos.
