IR film questions

Just got a roll of Kodak HIE today and am going to go shoot with it. Just wondering about using dual filters. I am using an 87c filter for it and I know about metering and focusing it propperly, but I was wondering about adding a second filter on top, like an effect filter (i.e. duto filter.) Will that screw all my photos up or give them a soft IR feel? This is my very first roll and at the price IR goes for I don't even want to put it in my camera without having all my ducks in a row. I want to make the most of every shot.
