Can others edit my Photos

Hello,

I was hoping for some... "extended critique." This isn't my work, so I'm posting a link - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/juk0csempbc0khb/6YQFVVXaYS#/

I did second shooting for this guy and my results weren't much different than his. He had the softbox and all the expensive PRO stuff going on, but was using a kit lens (not necessarily bad) which had a focus motor problem, and is it just me or is the exposure, white balance, and cropping a bit off?

I'm not asking just because I want someone to agree with me. He's a well-known photographer, and I'm wondering if you think it's just a style or something else?

Thanks!

I cant dropbox at this location to look.

Ya' gotta love the phallic object that is growing out of the shoulder of the dude wearing the Speedos! Hilarious! And the "secret he will take to his grave" guy on the left of the photo? NICE LAMP growing out of his head. Jeebus. It's called a viewfinder...maybe he ought to look thru his a bit more closely when shooting simple lineups...

Are you serious, the person who shot these is "well-known"?

If it his "style" we've seen it before; some tilted frames, cropping heads at the eyebrows, etc.

I think a "style" is something you choose to do after you have some grasp of the basics.

I'm a relative newbie to photography, but I personally wouldn't show most of these shots to anyone.

These are the pictures I like:

More effort could have been put into working with the subjects, too. They never seem to be in agreement about whether they should be looking at the camera. In the third picture, the third guy's expression really kills the whole thing because it looks like he's squinting.

Those are fairly terrible. They're pretty much in focus, I guess, but that seems to be about it.

snapshots.... period. I suppose you mean well known in your town?

The problem here is not a kit lens. The problem is him not having any idea what he's doing.

There are two decent ones IMO, the well-flash-lit one of them sitting down together on a bench or whatever. And the one from above on the roof by the air conditioners. However, they're still not great by any means. The air conditioners is a nice composition, but everybody looks squinty and really uncomfortable: the posing and model rapport are terrible. Also pretty harsh shadows.

The bench one is well lit, but has some color balance issues, posing still needs work, and there are super distracting composition elements like those wires on the floor.

The others are all just like... auto mode/no thought whatsoever-style bad

I liked the one in the back of the truck or whatever it was pretty well. But, yeah, boring location, and zero rapport with the guys.

find a different mentor, or first shooter, or...............anything!

these have copyright info embedded in exif and we may be treading on toes with this discussion

It's not clear what was going on here, frankly. The dude's flickr contains pictures that are quite a lot better.
