If someone sends a PM, I think the 'who' should be kept private unless it is reported to the mods.

I suggest that Steve et als instead of waiting to characterize the other bad guys just take it upon themselves to correct them mid-stream.

Well, a couple of points.

First, this ass-hat decided to use a PM, so it's a little difficult for anyone to call him out in private. Frankly, I would like to see the text of the PM so we can see what kind of helpful idiocy permeates the minds of some people here.

Second, I have called people out in public. Lemme' tell ya': Nothing will twist someone's panties faster than being told they're bein' a dick.

There used to be a guy on the HDR forum who would eviscerate people if posted HDR photos didn't meet his level of acceptable criteria. The problem was that the guy was actually really good. I confronted him a few times, and all it did was fuel his idiot-fire even more. He just preferred to try to knock others down in an effort to boost his own ego. He's gone now, and that was a VERY positive thing.

I'm a busy guy. I can take the time to call someone out, or I can take the time to try to help someone who's seeking help. I'll opt for the latter. My experience here shows me that most folks here are pretty astute, and they can probably figure out who the people are who are worthy of being ignored...

I think we have convicted whoever sent the PM without the benefit of any evidence. WAS the PM rude and malicious, or just truthfully blunt? Was the PM sent to avoid detection of being a dick, or to try and avoid everyone jumping on the bandwagon? Everyone seems content to call the sender a douche without even knowing what was written.

I suggest that if the OP finds the PM malicious or hateful they should report it so the mods can deal with the sender. If not, This post only serves to stir up a riot over nothing, with people jumping on the "bash the sender" bandwagon without even knowing what was said.

If the PM was not bad enough to report, or didnt bother the OP enough to report, i maintain that it wasn't important enough to warrant this much discussion. Im sure whoever sent it is getting a pretty good chuckle put of this thread. It sure got them plenty of anonymous attention.

Since this is a personal matter between two members of which neither has, at this point in time, reported it directly to the mods I'm locking the thread since there is really little discussion that can be had in the open.

I also echo the points made by pixmedic - private messages can be reported just like posts by clicking the little triangle with ! in the middle - found on the lower left corner of a post, just under the users profile information. Simply report the PM and mods and admin can review the situation; it also helps validate the content of the pm and avoid a "he/she said" situation.
