Is it worth fighting with Adorama over a not-as-described 5D body?

Oh man! When I saw Henry posting on this thread, I was REALLY hoping for a faceoff!

I called Helen from adorama the other day concerning my free d800 and i have been told they couldn't help me out! damn adorama!

Henry from BH, can you help me out please? :)

I'll take a Phase One P40 myself. No need for a P80 and I can supply the body, if that's OK.

I've ordered a filter like that through B&H that was described as in very good condition by B&H's standards and it arrived scuffed and scratched. Apparently their very good = acceptable for my 16 pixel camera. :(

I'm very sorry to read this and will be happy to investigate. Unfortunately I cannot ID you or this transaction from the info here. My email is in my sig, Feel free to contact me.

Both Helen from Adorama and Henry (?) from B&H are class acts and are fine representatives of their respective organizations.

Well, you're half right -- she certainly is. Thank you nevertheless. :-)

This was several years ago and for the price of the filter, it wasn't worth messing with it. I don't know if I could even find the filter after two moves.

i've had the same thing with adorama buying from their own website. was listed as scratch free condition, came with a pretty good mark on it. it was like 20$, so it really wasn't worth the hassle and dealing with shipping it back and buying another replacement. i've had more than enough good experiences with adorama and b+h that i still wouldn't hesitate to buy from them. I absolutely would deal with something as expensive as a camera body not being as described though.

Apparently the incident still rankles you. I am very sorry.

Henry,

You are the kind of representative that all of us appreciate.
Next time I go in to spend too much money at B&H, I will ask for you and perhaps we can have coffee or tea together if you're not busy.

Thank you. Coffee perhaps, which I drink excessively and for which the expression, "you don't buy it, you rent it" is all too true. The day you see me willingly drink tea you will know the universe has become unhinged, down is up, and gravity is in jeopardy. :-)

The OP HAS been in contact with me, (thank you, Dao), and I'm pleased to update as follows:

the used ratings on Amazon are NOT Adorama ratings. Apparently they will not allow retailers to use their own ratings - bizarre or what??

The CS rep who offered the OP $10 to keep the unit was bang out of order, and this has been addressed with him. This unit came with a 6 month warranty, which included a 30-day returns period.
The customer SHOULD have been offered a pre-paid label to return it to us, (or a bigger discount) and either a full refund or an immediate exchange.

The OP has elected to exchange the unit and a replacement will be on the way out to him.

Now THAT is customer sevice. And is why I purchase most of my gear from Adorama.

OMG! We could so take sides here and make it an all-out brawl!

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

I certainly wasn't there but I do know that sometimes the wrong item gets shipped. You should always give your retailer the chance to correct mistakes.

You should also never take anything personally until you know for certain that it is. ;)

we ordered two flashes from B&H recently, both were used but listed in EX condition. one was inoperable when we got it. I assumed i was going to have to fight it out. instead, i emailed B&H, got an email back less than 2 hours later apologizing for the bad unit, and that they were sending another one out right away. I got it two days later in perfect working order. we haven't had any "bad" experience with any other store as far as ordering gear goes, but the GOOD experiences we have had with B&H keeps us from straying. I think good experiences deserve customer loyalty as much as bad ones push customers away. we tend to only hear about the bad experiences, since we always expect good service, but I figured i would share OUR experience with B&H since they got brought up.

Not really, I still buy from and recommend B&H. If it would have been something more expensive I would have definitely had it sent back. Maybe update the way things are rated? When I sell on POTN and I rate something in Excellent condition it's because it's pretty much as I bought it. My 5D MKII I'd sell as fair because of some scratches on the body and the paint wearing near the shutter button even though the shutter assembly has probably less than 2,000 shots on it currently. I wouldn't advertise it as excellent and not expect a buyer to complain because of the cosmetic condition.
