Is the D90 shutter too loud for wildlife shooting?

Hi, my wife and I were out on a trip in the RMNP and came to a section where everyone was taking pictures of Elk on the side of the road. We stopped and I took my D90 out, I snapped a quick picture and had this lady give me a look.... LIKE WHAT KIND OF CRAP ARE YOU SHOOTING WITH!

I felt like the shutter might of been too loud and that's why I got the look lol. Nobody was making a sound and you could clearly hear my camera when I snapped the picture. I guess the D90 is not the one to use for wildlife?

No the shutter is not to loud for wildlife. Apparently however it is to loud for idiots.
