The flash I used seems to be reflecting off my sisters hair and giving it a grey look. I think its caused by the hairspray. In the future is there something that I can do to stop this.

What's your lighting setup? Do you use a softbox? An umbrella? A diffuser?

Well, if you think it's the hair-spray causing the problem... More info on lighting would help, but right off the bat, my guess is greater diffusion.

Its under a tree in a sunny day. I used an sb600 to her left without any light modifiers. Ah the downsides of having pitch black hair, everything shows.

Try a diffuser? Soften up the light.

Just don't use hairspray. No really I don't know, but I notice even in person that hairspray leaves a whitish coating on dark hair, especially too much used. I have no tips if it's caused by lighting.

Flat lighting and super small aperture did this. You can use the burn tool on PS and set it to burn highlights should fix it a bit.

I'll second the diffuser. Or, you can swivel your flash and bounce it off a reflector so that it's not so harsh.

i think it might have just been too much hairspray because It looked like that before as I talked to her. Now as for flat lighting do you mean I should have diffused it or changed the angle.
Nvm you mean the lighting is too even. So more contrast next time

There's your problem HARD LIGHT, next time use a brolly or cheaper bounce it off a poly board or reflector
