I tried both when I had a D5100 - preferred and kept the 35mm as I found the 50 a bit long as a 'standard' prime on DX. Just my opinion.

Seeing this deal...buy the 35mm. You won't regret the choice. And it's a very competitive price.
This suggestion coming from a guy shooting the 5100 w/ 35mm 1.8.
