It’s probably doing as designed, but just to be sure!

Hi forum,

Using a Canon 5D mark ii, setting the camera to monochrome in RAW mode after uploading the shots and opening them in Adobe bridge all shots a full colour. So what’s the use of the monochrome settings in RAW or is this only designed for shooting in RAW+JEPG/JEPG.

Rick...

RAW format does not use any in-camera processing (like picture settings adjustments). It's data straight from the sensor. It's up to you to apply the B&W conversion in your RAW image handler (lightroom, photoshop, etc). This will allow you to adjust the luminance of specific colors making for a much more versatile way to do black and whites. Rather than accepting what the camera spits out.

Yes, the picture settings only affect jpgs. RAW is RAW and as Tyler said, unaffected by any in camera adjustments.

That is the way my Canon works when shooting in Monochrome...if you wish to see the RAW files opened as B&W files, you need to make sure that the Display Files AS-SHOT option is checked. Otherwise, the RAW images will be converted to RGB Color when opened and displayed.

Hmmmm .... that looks like an option, will have a look if Adobe bridge or lightroom can do so.

Thanks Derrel
