I join you in your hatred of spiders. I dont think I could have done that even with a 400mm lens.

Do you know what type of spider it was? How big was it in real life?

Just a regular old Ontario Garden Spider, it's body was about a nickel size in diameter, it was big enough for me to keep my distance... yuck!
 
This spider is an orb weaver and I had one hanging around in my garden tool shed for a couple months last fall. Got quite a few shots of it. Most spiders are quite harmless.

Great shots, particularly like #1. That's not a reason to stay in doors at all, as Jerry said, most of them are harmless. If I had something like that in my yard, I would be camping out with my 100mm macro and grabbing as many shots as I could. Just curious - what happened to #5?
