This was a more of a trial run. It's a decent sized market with a row of arts and crafts, but I agree that it isn't ideal for selling art. However, it was an ideal market for me to get practice setting everything up and making sure I have everything I need. I already found out that I need some longer drop cords and I shouldn't put my artwork in the back of the car if I'm going to use AC.

I actually got the idea of doing a Farmer's market from Alain Briot when I got consultation from him in Phoenix a few months ago... they have done shows at FM's before. I figure if it worked for them, it might work for me too. I did sell my highest priced item to a friend that stopped by at the end of the show so that alone made it worthwhile financially. It just takes one sale of my cheapest item at this show to make it worth it. It's only $25 for 4 hours. I figure I'm going to do every show I can, unless it becomes unprofitable.

As for the booth, it's a propanel.com setup. Quite easy to assemble and relatively lightweight. The lighting is 3 4' strips with 4 50 watt halogen heads each. I hope to eventually switch to LED's so I can avoid excess heat and power usage. I don't want to blow a breaker! I have an EZ up tent but it wasn't required for this show.

Anyway, my next show is July 7. It's also a short 4 hour market, but it's an art market so hopefully I'll do better.

The big shows here are in October and November so I still have a few months.

You'd be surprised. Here in Maine, this type of setup is quite popular, and people do sell images.

Yeah, our local "Farmers Market" is a twice-a-week affair, and the arts/crafts area is at least AS popular, if not more so, than the produce part. It's really almost more of a street fair atmosphere. We have produce sellers, flower vendors, arts & crafts vendors, entertainment, music--it's a very popular venue. I've been thinking about getting my son to set up a booth at ours for his artwork.

Same with this one. As many arts and crafts as food vendors, and there was a lady with a guitar and full sound system set up between the two areas playing. The bonus is that this is a weekly deal, so should I find myself doing this as primary income, that's at least one gig a week.... which is especially important during the summer when there are few shows to be found.
