I came across some emergency vehicles, as well as others, on my way home from a friends house in the middle of the night and discovered that there was a single vehicle accident and that while sadly a dog was killed, no people were injured. I asked if they would mind me taking pictures (I don't think I really needed to ask but I wanted to be courteous) and they said it was fine but I would have to hurry because the wrecker was about to pull the car onto his truck. I grabbed my camera and wouldn't you know it, the batteries in my flash were dead! Luckily I keep spares in my bag and I quickly switched them out and took a few shots before the truck was hauled off. They weren't my best work because this wasn't planned and time was short.
After I got home and did what I could to improve them in post I sent them to the editor of the local news paper with some details about the accident and told him he could use the photos if he liked. I received no word for over a weeks so I assumed they didn't want/need them but then I caught sight of the image today in the paper as someone was reading it on their break. It is definitely my photo but the caption under it just says "courtesy photo". It's cool that they used it but I am a little disappointed that they did not credit me or even let me know they were going to use it. Anyway, here is the shot they used, smaller of coarse and in b&w.

Yeah, I am an animal lover so I was sad to hear about the dog. I'm not too broken up about the photo credit, it just would have been cool to see my name under it.
