Looks like Jack had a long night.

Jack's a ratter, we have to watch our step in the morning as there are usually two or three dead rats on the hall rug. He will not allow any cat in our yard or the ones on either side of us, he's a bad kitty.

It's very "King of the Jungle" with the plants and his stance and the look on his furry little face. I'd like a tiny bit more space above his head - it feels a bit cramped to me - but other than that, I can't help but smile at this picture.

Some of the grasses near Jack appear to be focused better than Jack -- who also appears to be walking toward you.

I'm wondering if you didn't have your camera in a continuous focus mode (e.g. Nikon AF-C if you were using your D7000). In AF-S mode the camera can grab the focus lock at the position where Jack was when you did a half-press of the shutter... but if he keeps moving he'll be nearer to you than the focused distance by the time you take the shot.

Sony Vixia camcorder mounted on a tripod using a remote to take the picture, before I got the D7000.

Cats paws are cut off by the pavement (?) border. The line of it, the angle does not add to the composition, it is a distraction. The placement of the main subject is rather random. It is a horizontal photo even if the dominant lines are vertical. There is way too much space in the photo that shows nothing, and it all makes it a casual pedestrian photo. It is just a snapshot of a cat.

Yes, yes and yes, it is a snapshot, taken with a video camera., the placement being random is the only point I would contest.
