Jazzed up over vacation...

I am not much of a traveler, but I am trying to be.
After working so hard for so long, I need a change of pace.

After much deliberation, we've pick New Orleans in October, and will get to catch some VooDoo Fest!

It's gonna be an interesting change of pace for me/us, and hopefully will provide some new photo opportunities too.
New Orleans offers up so much in the way of architecture, and I can try my hand at something I've never done...concert photography!
I'm gonna bring my 100-400mm, 28-75mm, and the 90mm TS.

Anybody been there, or live there, have any must see or do's?
Like, should we take a swamp tour?
We'll have eight full days to have fun, so any pointers would be appreciated!

When I was there pre 9/11, it was all about people watching and food. It did not hurt that my hotel balcony overlooked Bourbon St. I did take a bus tour that only stopped once at a cemetery, and a riverboat ride that offered a nice sunset view of the city returning up the Mississippi.

Swamp it up with the 100-400, and maybe the horse and carriage tour(s) so you can stop and go as you please.

My advice is to walk around and when you hear good music from a bar or club just walk in.

You won't be disappointed. If you like Beignets (spelling) go to cafe dumond. It is stereotypical but delicious.

New Orleans would be an awesome vacation. Both inside and outside the city. SOOOO much to see! Enjoy every minute of it!

Hey Bitter, have a good (but not too relaxing) vacation. There's food, music, architecture, history, culture... really neat place. Went there quite some time ago with my partner (and later wife) and we had an absolute blast. I was there for a technical conference, and she took the day trips - and during dinner she'd fill me in on all the good things I missed. When both of you can do the things together - excellento! Of course, we will be expecting a full report.
