Grappling tournament that was held today. Members of my gym didn't show up for this one so I didn't stay until the end of no-gi.

Since I wasn't the gym's photographer I could only shoot from the spectating area (which was really small) so I had hard time getting the angles that I wanted. Often the competitors would be facing away from me doing something really awesome that I couldn't capture.

A zoomed in pic of the face of the guy stuck in the guillotine could've been cool. The RNC (d) pic is cool, too. Again, would've enjoyed a tighter shot really showing off the technique. Overall, pretty good pictures. It's too bad you didn't get an action shot of a sweep or takedown.

Wow another BJJ guy. Cool! I bought my camera for 3 reasons, and 1 of them was for BJJ both training and my blog. I'm new to photography but I have to say,
there seems to be above average noise in the pics. Even for ISO 1600. I have the same camera, and I feel like my pics aren't that noisy at 1600. Did you do any post production?

Nice shots. The one suggestion would be to do a custom white balance. It would get rid of the yellow tint from the lighting in the gym.

Yeah since I wasn't the gym photographer I couldn't use flash but I needed to capture the action crisp so I kinda had to underexpose a bit than bring it up in post.
