Just be honest! :)

"I'm very interested in working for your company...I'm just not certain which line of BS will get me the job."

You'll do great!

Your fellow TPF mods could send in character references... just tell us what company and we'll do the rest!

haha thanks guys - sadly I've not found a job for "power crazed moderator who wears a hat" as yet :(

There are just some interviews that you can't win. As when you are asked: "If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?"

Yes, I have really been asked that question.

My biggest downfall in interviews has always been that I had not done enough research into the company or the interviewer before going there.

Do the research and you will have the answers to your questions.

Great now I have to work out what kind of tree I have to be!

same here...

I ALWAYS dress better than I think I should. Suit and tie. If it's a super casual place I will lose the tie.

Don't be yourself, be the you that they would hire.

Especially for you runnah. No dirty jokes during the interview. ;)

Ha! Probably trying to see if you can think outside the box or something.

Every interview I've been to has been pretty boring and straightforward. Mostly technical questions, math questions (converting between decimal/fraction, inch/metric, etc.), and blueprint reading tests. Sometimes the right answer is "I don't know." For example, I've been asked what I would torque a bolt of a certain size to. The correct answer is "I don't know, I would have to look that up in the manual." Specs change. You're not supposed to memorize stuff like that - look it up every time.
I'm an aircraft mechanic.

I agree though that I have always done too little research into the company before the interview.

Or animal - what animal would you be. I picked an Orca (can hunt alone as well as part of a pack/team)

I've interviewed dozens of people over the years, and never insulted them with such idiocy. What's the point, some silly psych thing? When people are nervous enough? Are they on time? Qualified? Dressed appropriately? Find out how much they appear to know about the business - not the company, per se, but the business - and get them to talk, more than you do. Ask them where they see themselves in 5 years, too. Always enlightening.

If you can't make a good judgment call from the above, you probably shouldn't be interviewing.
