Just a casual try at kids photography

Went top a friend's house and he wanted me to take a couple of snaps of his son.. Had a 35mm lens so was feeling a risky due to distortion problems.
However, clicked a few .. Would like to know your C&C..

That is a tough lens to shoot kids with.

I like the expression in #2.

Maybe take the kid to a more neutral place so the BG is not distracting?

Aim for focus on the eyes. In all of the pictures focus is somewhere else. the first one can be processed further.

Pretty much just changed the WB, brightened the whites of the eyes and some sharpening...

hmm, maybe try a wide aperture to emphasise the eyes...

Poor lighting and One is totally Out of focus.
Maybe a good idea would be to invest in a portable soft box or reflector.
Keep at it though, good to see you are open to suggestions with a good attitude.
